Dr
Lee T. Billingsley, President, AAPG, USA and Dr Rick Fritz, Executive Director,
AAPG, who were on a visit to India, made presentations on June 16, 2007 in New
Delhi on “The Role of Professional Organizations in Economic Production of
Energy Resources- AAPG as an Example” and Geohuman vs. Geodigital”,
respectively. Dr Billingsley is the second AAPG President to visit India. Before
the presentations, the visiting dignitaries had a meeting with Central Executive
Body along with Regional Coordinators of Association of Petroleum Geologists (APG),
India. Shri D. K. Pande, Director (Exploration) and Patron, APG welcomed the
AAPG officials who were also accompanied by Dr Stephen Key, Chief Executive
Officer, GEO, 2008.
Dr
James Peters, Vice President, APG, apprised and gave detailed account of various
activities of APG that took place since inception in 2001 like organizing field
workshops, field expeditions, special lectures and biannual Conferences and
Exhibitions, which now have acquired international status. The visiting AAPG
officials were highly impressed by the progress made by APG, India in such a
short time.
One very important decision
arrived at during the meeting was to jointly organize forthcoming conference
named GEO-INDIA by APG, India and AAPG during October 2008. The exact date and
venue will be confirmed within a very short time.

The visiting officials presented
very vividly the role of geoscientists to society, challenges and role of
associations and the benefits of becoming member of the associations like AAPG
notably GIS Special Search Program etc. which is available free to members of
AAPG. The lectures were attended by representatives from ONGC, DGH, OVL, ENI,
Cairns Energy, Jubilant Energy etc. Shri D. K. Pande while concluding the
sessions remarked that India is not only becoming a centre for hydrocarbon
exploration activities but also for organizing international petroleum
conferences. He remarked that we can achieve the goal of dissemination of
knowledge together in association with AAPG. Shri Anand Sahu, Secretary, APG
gave a vote of thanks.
