On 10th February 2007, the
Delhi Chapter of Association of Petroleum Geologists organised a geological
field trip for its members at a section 6 kms from Behror on Behror - Narnaul
highway in Rajasthan. Over 20 participants were the Delhi Chapter’s members from
ONGC, DGH, IOC and Cairn Energy.
Under the guidance of Professor A. M. Bhola, an eminent structural geologist and
Head of the Geology Department, University of Delhi, the members of APG Delhi
chapter had an unforgettable opportunity to relive their own field trips made
way down the memory lane.
The exposed outcrops of Delhi super group of Meso Proterozoic age are deformed
by three phases of well preserved folding affecting bedding and coevally
developed slaty cleavage, dipping northeastwards. Prof. Bhola beginning with the
strain ellipsoid concept demonstrated on the ground, different stages of
folding, the geological features originating from these and their hierarchy in
time.
The trip can be simply underlined for emphasis in view of the enhanced value of
outcrop geology in the new vistas opened by sequence stratigraphy in petroleum
exploration.
