The Delhi Chapter of APG once
again achieved its objective of providing a platform to petroleum geo-scientists
to discuss and deliberate upon the emerging trends and technologies and
disseminate the knowledge in hydrocarbon exploration.
The lectures were attended by
over 90 delegates and APG Members from a wide cross section of geoscientists
from ONGC, OVL, DGH, IOC, GAIL, HPCL, Eni India, Reliance Energy, Cairn,
Jubiliant, Geopetrol, Canoro, including delegates from Delhi University &
University of Jammu.
President, APG-India, Mr.
Jokhan Ram, in his welcome address, appreciated the Delhi Chapter for organizing
the seminar on a highly relevant topic and its efforts of bringing
geo-scientists together on as many as six occasions in less than sixteen months
of its inception.
He highlighted the need for greater emphasis on the understanding of Global
Neoproterozoic Petroleum Systems and particularly need to put concerted efforts
in pursuing in Indian analogs.
Mr. Franco Conticini, GM, Eni
India, introduced the guest speaker Dr. Jonathan Craig from Eni, Italy.
Dr. Craig has worked as a geoscientist in the oil industry since 1980. He has
wide ranging experience as a field geologist and structural geologist. He is an
expert in Proterozoic and Early Palaeozoic geology and has authored more than
seventy books, research papers and articles on topics as diverse as Exploration
Geoscience, Archeology, Genealogy, Postal History and the Steam Railways of the
Indian Subcontinent. He is now the Head of Geology for ENI.
Dr. Andrea Cozzi, another eminent speaker, is currently a Senior Exploration
Geologist at ENI India and has wide ranging experience in Sedimentology,
Carbonate Petrography and Structural Geology.
Dr. Jonathan Craig spoke on "Global Neoproterozoic Petroleum Systems :
Snowballs, Source Rocks and the search for Old Oil from North Africa to the
Indian Subcontinent" and explained relatively poorly known Neoproterozoic
petroleum system from a hydrocarbon prospective, despite the existence of proven
plays in many parts of the world including India. He gave a fascinating account
how these hydrocarbon plays depend on the presence of prolific "Infracambrian"
source rocks. He brought out nicely how the knowledge of the petroleum system is
improving rapidly.
Dr.
Andrea Cozzi spoke on the topic “Neoproterozoic-Early Cambrian Petroleum System
of Oman and its extension into western Rajasthan”. He drew excellent analog of
Neoproterozoic-Early Cambrian petroleum system from South Oman Salt Basin to
Western Rajasthan Rajasthan Basin.
The talks have been very well appreciated by the
participants, particularly in view of the hydrocarbon Prospectivity and
existence of the
Neoproterozoic Petroleum system in Indian
Basins. The importance of the topic can be gauged from the fact that
University of Jammu is
organizing an exclusive International Conference on the subject in Feb’2008. |
