Mumbai Regional Chapter of APG organized a technical lecture on hydrocarbon exploration in basement on the 21st December 2012. The lecture titled “Techniques of Hydrocarbon Exploration in Basement with Special Emphasis on Log Analysis” was organized at VasudharaBhavan Auditorium.

The lecture was attended by geoscientists from various hydrocarbon E&P companies located in Mumbai. It was especially encouraging to witness a significant number of students, from colleges of Mumbai and even Pune, attending the lecture.

The lecture was delivered by Mr ArnabGhosh, Senior Petrophysicist from Schlumberger. During his talk, the speaker brought out various nuances of log evaluation for identifying the nature of basement, as also the nature of fluid contained in the basement. While elaborating, he also talked about the log suites which must be acquired for effective assessment of hydrocarbon potential of basement, as the nature of accumulation in these rocks is significantly different from the sedimentary rocks.
